About The Event
What is Make a Stand?
A virtual fundraising event to raise money for the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children to support children with vision and hearing loss.
What is RIDBC?
RIDBC is one of the longest standing charities in Australia. For 160 years we have been providing quality, innovative services and support to current and future generations with hearing or vision loss. Today, we are the leading service provider in the sector, supporting thousands of Australians across our 22 sites nationally, and via high quality video conferencing to remote and regional areas.
Our mission is to enhance the lives of children and adults with hearing or vision loss through providing equal opportunities and access to communication, education, literacy, therapy and health services that will enable them to live a life unlimited, where nothing holds them back from reaching their potential.
What is virtual lemonade?
Virtual lemonade is what you buy when you make a donation to someone’s fundraising page. Whether you buy it by the cup, jug, case or bucket, you’ll be helping families supported by RIDBC.
What do I have to do?
Tap into your nostalgia and creativity to make a real-life lemonade stand at home with your family, then sell your ‘virtual lemonade’ on your fundraising page to help families in need.
When does the event start and finish?
Make a Stand officially runs from May 14 - June 30, though online fundraising pages will stay open longer.
When do I raise the money?
As soon as your fundraising page is set up! Your fundraising page will be active once you register and you can sell your virtual lemonade throughout the campaign by sharing your link to the page. The sooner you register, the sooner you can start selling your virtual lemonade and raising money. So why not register now and Make a Stand?!
How do I sign up?
It’s simple. Just click the 'Register' button at the top of the page or click here. It’s free and we’ll immediately send you an email to get started.
Do I have to create a physical lemonade stand?
Besides raising money for children with vision and hearing loss, Make a Stand is all about making and sharing moments of joy with your family. So whether it’s paper, lego, fabric or anything else, we’d love to see you have a crack at making a stand with your family. Even a handwritten sign above the kitchen bench counts!
If you’re not interested in making a stand or setting up a fundraising page, you can always make a donation to the campaign instead.
Do I have to make real lemonade?
Who doesn’t want to drink tasty lemonade!? No worries if it’s not your thing though. You can mix up something else or let the supermarket do the work for you. Setting up your stand and your fundraising page is the important thing.
Do I have to take pictures or videos of ourselves making the stand?
Photos of your family building the stand and having fun at your stand are what will help you sell your virtual lemonade on your page. If you’re camera shy, make sure to at least get one good photo to use on your fundraising page profile photo. We’re sure your family and friends would love to virtually connect with you by seeing what you’ve been up to!
How do I make lemonade?
The basic recipe is 1 cup water, 1 cup lemon juice and add sugar to taste. But experimenting to get yours just sweet or tart enough is part of the fun!
How do I set up my fundraising page?
Your page will be automatically created when you complete the registration process. Then make sure to customise it with your photo and updates from your stand.
How do I reset my password?
Just click the Login button, then ‘forgot password’.
How do I ask people I know to buy my virtual lemonade and donate?
The most effective way to get people to donate to your page is by asking them! Share your fundraising page with all of your friends and family via Facebook, Instagram or email. It’s always amazing to see your family and friends support you in helping out a cause you’re passionate about. Just share your ‘why’ for participating to really connect and encourage their support. The about section on your page is a great place to share why you’re Making a Stand. You could even make a short video of your ‘why’ to share and make it even more personal.
How do people donate to my fundraising page?
They simply go to your fundraising page via the link you give them and click the ‘Donate’ button, then search for your name to make a donation directly to your page.
How much do cups and jugs of virtual lemonade cost?
You can accept donation of any amount for your lemonade, but we suggest selling it for:
$15 for a Cup - could purchase craft resources to use in therapy sessions.
$50 for a Jug - could fund a 1 hour early intervention group session.
$100 for a Bucket - could transcribe a toddler book into braille.
$350 for a Case - could provide a Parenting Group session for families with babies under 12 months with Hearing loss.
Where does the money raised go?
All money raised for RIDBC goes towards helping to provide children with vision impairment and hearing loss with the best quality and innovative services so that they too can achieve their fullest potential. Our $30,000 target for this fundraising activity is to assist 600 children to have their first session of Early Intervention. You can read more about RIDBC’s work here.
How can I share my page to invite others to Make a Stand?
Once you’re logged in, just click the share button from your profile.
How do I update my fundraising goal?
Your fundraising dashboard is where you can update your goal, profile photos, and ‘about’ page. Just click ‘login’ at the top of the home page after you’ve registered.
